Six Sentence Sunday - February 26, 2012

"Get dressed and come to the living room, please."

And then he was gone. I was more confused than ever. He wanted me to get dressed  and come to the living room?

Then I got it. He was getting rid of me!

Flash Fiction Friday - 2-24-12

Flash Fiction Friday. What can you do with only 100 words?

She was trembling. Every time one of her flashbacks hit her, it tore me in two. I wished more than anything I could take them from her, shoulder the pain, but wishing wouldn’t change reality. She’d been through more than most people ever had within a lifetime, and dealing with the flashbacks, the panic, this was all part of the process.

I held her as close to me as possible, murmuring words of comfort, letting her know I was here for her. She would make it through this. She would survive. All I have to do was hold on tight.

Six Sentence Sunday - February 19, 2012

I thought I'd mix it up a little. Today's six sentences come from my debute novel, Hidden Threat.

This morning she'd spent over an hour in the bathroom doing her hair and makeup, something she never did anymore, and donned one of her new power business suits. She pulled her reddish-brown hair up off her neck in a twist to give her a more professional air, as did the three-inch black pumps she wore. She looked good in the sleek black pants suit. Of course she should, given what it had cost. The sales woman had commented how much the suit complimented her figure, and she had to admit, it did show off her assets while hiding her flaws.

She ran a hand down the front of the suit and sighed, whispering to her reflection, "Ready or not, here I come."

Flash Fiction Friday - 2-17-12

Flash Fiction Friday. What can you do with only 100 words?

He didn’t want to be here. If it had been up to him, he wouldn’t be. Unfortunately, his little sister insisted this was one party she couldn’t miss, and there was no way he was letting her come by herself. She was too na├»ve; too trusting.

She’d followed him to New York two months ago from the small Midwest town they grew up in, and if anything happened to her their mom would never let him hear the end of it.

Every sleazy guy in there seemed to be flirting with her, and she was eating up all the attention.

Six Sentence Sunday - February 12, 2012

Behind Closed Doors is now available!

Ever since Elizabeth Marshall had walked into this life, he’d wanted her, and no amount of avoiding or denying was working. At that moment, he didn’t want to avoid. He didn’t want to deny. He wanted her. Now. Even if he woke up tomorrow kicking himself, he’d take it.

Flash Fiction Friday - 2-10-12

Flash Fiction Friday. What can you do with only 100 words?

A breeze blew in from the window, cooling her sweat drenched skin. It wasn’t much; the temperature outside still hovered around seventy-five degrees. She closed her eyes, remembering, as she lay on her bed in the thin shirt and panties he’d left her in.

Her hand drifted between her breasts, and she wished he was still there beside her; holding her, kissing her, making her skin tingle in all the right places.

There was a noise behind her, and her eyes snapped open.

Flipping onto her stomach, her eyes found the source of the noise. “There’ll be another plane tomorrow.”

Six Sentence Sunday - February 5, 2012

Here are six sentences from my upcoming release, Behind Closed Doors, available this Thursday, February 9th.

Elizabeth Marshall drove her red Honda Civic into the little town of Springfield, Ohio. The simple name was one of the things that attracted her. It wasn’t complicated, and that was exactly what she needed in her life right now: no complications.

She wanted a fresh start, far away from all the memories of the city she’d left behind. Away from the person everyone thought she was. A person she’d really never been, before or after.

Flash Fiction Friday - 2-3-12

Flash Fiction Friday. What can you do with only 100 words?

I was too late.

My gaze raked over his features as he lay there in the leaves. His head was turned, so I couldn’t see his face. It didn’t matter. He was completely still. I knew.

The fallen leaves crunched under my feet with each step I took, sounding loud to my ears. As I took the final steps, I knelt at his side. Reaching out, I was almost afraid to touch him.

Closing my eyes to steady myself, I pressed my hand against the exposed skin around his middle. Cold. My brother was dead. I really was too late.
