Sunday Sneak Peek - Hidden Threat by Sherri Hayes

Three o’clock rolled around, and a knock sounded on Matthew’s door. He’d been staring at his phone for the last ten minutes trying to come up with an excuse to cancel his meeting with Cali Stanton today. The problem was there wasn’t a valid reason.

The knock came again, but louder this time. It could only be one person, and he knew if he didn’t respond this time, Jason would just come in anyway. “Come in,” Matthew said without enthusiasm.

Seconds later Jason was through the door and standing in front of him, hands on his hips.

Matthew stared up at his brother. “What?”

“What?” Jason said, clearly unable to believe what he was both seeing and hearing. “What? Matthew you’re supposed to be upstairs right now for your weekly briefing. You’re still here. Why?”

Matthew’s mind was scrambling for an answer, but he didn’t come up with one fast enough to suit Jason.

“What is going on? You haven’t been yourself for days, and now you’re missing meetings? This isn’t like you.”

He didn’t need Jason to tell him he wasn’t himself---he knew that already. “I’ve just had a lot of things on my mind lately.” Grabbing on to the first thing he could think of besides seeing Cali again, he said, “I talked to Martinez. The tape was tampered with.”

It took Jason only a second to fully grasp that information. “Who?”

Matthew nervously tapped his fingers on his desktop as he glanced back to his computer screen. “I don’t know, but we have to figure it out. Until we do, we can’t trust anyone.”

Jason nodded. “What do you need me to do?”

This was a strategic move, and one that Jason would always defer to his younger brother. “I need to think.” After another minute, Matthew came up with an idea, not one to solve the mystery of the security tape, but one to solve his more immediate problem. He looked up at his brother. “Do you think you could cover the meeting for me today? I’d like to pick up that tape this afternoon and take a look at it myself.”

“Yeah. Sure,” Jason said. “I’ll take care of it.”

As Jason left the room, Matthew took one last look at the computer screen and the flashing message reminding him about the meeting he’d just handed off to Jason. Matthew wouldn’t see her today. He’d stick with his plan. He could do this. Space. That’s what he needed—just a little time and space—then all would be normal again.

Grabbing his jacket, he was out the door.

About The Author
Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn't good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.
At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.
Six years later, Sherri is the author of six full-length novels, and one short story. Writing has become a creative outlet for Sherri that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create. She is most well known for her Finding Anna Series about a young woman rescued from being a sex slave by a wealthy Dominant. The third book in that series, Truth, released July 25, 2013.

Sweet Saturday Sample - October 26, 2013

Hansen helped her carry her bags upstairs. Thankfully, they hadn't dropped them off at the hotel earlier. The last room on the left was clearly the master suite and his, so she chose the one directly across from it. The walls were a soft baby blue that matched the bedspread. It wasn't as frilly as the hotel room, but it still had that air of money about it, including an en suite bathroom that had a large shower and a soaker tub. As much as she hated to admit it, she liked it.
Since she’d only brought a week’s worth of clothing with her, it didn't take her long to unpack. They were on their way downstairs within twenty minutes. As they reached the bottom of the staircase, they heard voices. Each glanced at the other before reaching for their guns and edging down the last remaining steps.
Rounding the corner, they saw a man talking with Daniels. He appeared to be about her height, wearing a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up fashionably and neatly pressed pants. He didn't look threatening, so they both holstered their guns and stepped into the room.
Before they made it more than a few feet, the new arrival noticed their entrance and was quickly racing toward them. Correction. He was racing toward her.
“Oh! This must be her,” he gushed. “I see what you mean. I can definitely help.” Before she knew what was going on, he was reaching for her suit jacket, trying to remove it.
She reacted instinctively before thinking it through. Within seconds, the man was bent over the kitchen island with his arm pulled tight and high along his back.
“What in the world are you doing?” Daniels demanded.
“What was he doing?”
“Jeez, lady. Relax. This is Charlie, my stylist.”
Glancing down at what she then realized were his designer clothes, Rebecca conceded she might have overreacted a bit. She wasn't used to people grabbing at her and trying to remove her clothes like that. She stepped back, releasing him. “Sorry,” she said. “Just please don’t try to remove my clothing without asking first.”
“Got it. No problem,” he said, glancing between her and Daniels.
Hansen recovered faster than the rest of them. “What’s he doing here?” he asked, nodding at Charlie.
“My girlfriend is going to need some new clothing if she’s going to be out in public with me. Outfits like that,” he pointed at the suit she was wearing, “won’t do.”
“And what exactly is wrong with my clothing?”
“Honey,” he said, walking up, getting way too close for her comfort. “The places I go? You’ll stick out like a sore thumb in an outfit like that.” Then he leaned in and whispered in her ear. “Or do you want everyone to know you’re my bodyguard?”

Flash Fiction Friday - October 25, 2013

This week's picture...

“What do you think, my love?”

Liana tilted her head, apprising the couple that had walked into the bar. They’d taken great care with their appearance. The woman wore a black and red corset with a skirt that flared out, stopping an inch below her knees. The man’s outfit was less obvious. His leather pants and black vest wouldn’t attract attention walking down the street even if Halloween wasn’t only days away. They both had a distinct Goth vibe.
The woman turned to her right and laughed. Light glinted off her front fang, and Liana sucked in a breath. “Yes.”

Cover Reveal & Giveaway - Exit Strategry by L.V. Lewis

Author L.V. Lewis revisits the world of Keisha Beale and Tristan White from her Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever in the soon to be released Exit Strategy!

Summary

Ex·it Strat·e·gy (noun) 1. A preplanned means of extricating oneself from a situation that is likely to become difficult or unpleasant. 2. The method by which a venture capitalist or business owner intends to get out of an investment that he or she has made in the past.

Will Keisha and Tristan exercise their elaborate EXIT STRATEGY and end their unorthodox arrangement?
Assailed by demons she thought she had conquered, Keisha Beale has uttered the words to end her tumultuous relationship with Tristan White. Separated, they grapple for a time with their personal demons. However, when their lives apart become unbearable, a credible threat brings them back together prematurely.
As they seek to discover who is responsible for the threats, several seemingly unrelated incidents throw them into a tailspin. Will Keisha’s youthful indiscretions or Tristan’s un-reconciled feelings for a former sub derail their tenuous arrangement?
In the meantime, trouble in Nathan and Jada’s paradise send dramatic ripples that hint of future difficulties in the idyllic pairing.

Nothing Ventured…

Tristan uses his vast wealth and connections to correct a gross miscarriage of justice, while Keisha makes herself utterly vulnerable to Tristan and fears he has chosen to exercise his own exit strategy.

…Nothing Gained!

Will this be the end of the indecent arrangement that became a fairy tale? Or will Keisha and Tristan reveal the trauma from their pasts so they may heal and completely embrace their relationship?

Sensual, suspenseful, and still infused with the riotous levity of Triple-G and Fairy Hoochie Mama, the Ghetto Girl Romance Quadrilogy departs from full parody with a distinctive take on love, loyalty, sacrifice, redemption, and acceptance.

L. V. Lewis doesn't have the financial means of Tristan White, but she wouldn't want readers to go away from this cover reveal empty handed, so she's giving all viewers the chance to win one of the following three prizes (1) Kindle (2) $50 gift card (from either Amazon, B&N, or iTunes), 3) Signed Personalized copies of Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever and Exit Strategy.

These prizes will be awarded about a week after the release of Exit Strategy!

The giveaway will run from October 22nd - November 15th. During the week of October 29th - November 5th, Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever will be on sale for $.99!

DISCLAIMER:  If for some reason the book doesn’t load on all the platforms by the release date, this will be due to circumstances beyond my control. I apologize in advance for any snafus that might occur.

Big Cocks and Broomsticks Blog Hop & Giveaway

Halloween Memories

I grew up in a small town. When I say small, I don’t mean a few thousand people. My little town has around three hundred in it. That might not sound like much, but on Halloween most of the residents would go all out. Over half the houses in town would be decorated, and their lights turned on ready to pass out candy to all the trick-or-treaters.

One of my favorite parts about going trick-or-treating was the candy. I know most kids would say the same thing, but it wasn’t just any candy I had my sights set on. There was one stop that, no matter what, we had to make every year. It was right on the main drag, which was good. Especially on those Halloween nights when we were freezing our behinds off in winter coats. Yep, it really does get that cold in October in Ohio.

What was so special about this house? Every year the lady that lived there would make homemade popcorn balls to hand out to all the kids. Now, I know that today people would be screaming because it wasn’t prepackaged candy, but back then people did those sorts of things, and no one thought much of it.

Let me just say that these popcorn balls were amazing. They were one of the first things out of my bag of candy that I ate every time.

The woman that made these popcorn balls has long since passed away, and so have the days when trick-or-treaters had the opportunity to get a special little treat like this when going out on beggars night. I, however, will never forget how a very nice lady and her popcorn balls made my Halloween extra sweet.

Sweet Saturday Sample - October 19, 2013

I turned the doorknob and walked into my condo. My eyes immediately began to search for Brianna.

She was right where I thought she’d be, just outside the kitchen waiting for me as she had been yesterday. The difference today was that she was looking up at me and smiling. I dropped my keys on the table beside the door and went to her.

I circled my arms around her, bringing her close. I heard a small sigh escape her as my hands traveled up her back and into her hair. “How are you feeling?” I whispered before pulling back to look into her eyes.

“Better,” she said, looking just as relieved as I felt.

I wondered if she felt any of the same pull I felt toward her. Even if she did, would it be enough for her to stay? Would she give a relationship between the two of us an opportunity to develop? Or would fear from her past block any chance we had? I didn’t know the answer, and I’m not sure she did either.
With that thought, I closed my eyes and let my lips find hers. She opened up to me and kissed me back. It was not full of heat like our kiss the night before, but it was just as full of emotion. At least, it was for me. I had no idea what Brianna was feeling. Although she was getting better every day, she was still reluctant to share her true feelings with me. I was hoping that would change soon. More than anything, I wanted to know what she was thinking.

Flash Fiction Friday - October 18, 2013

This week's picture...

She’d been racking her brain for weeks trying to figure out what to get her fiancée for his birthday. He’d been working overseas for the last two months. They’d been surviving on Skype calls. It was getting old, and she couldn’t wait for him to get back in the country.

Unfortunately, he was going to be gone for his birthday, and she wanted to do something special for him. While reading one of her favorite books, she’d gotten inspiration. Two of his favorite things were books, and her. Why not combine the two? She thought it was the perfect present.

Cover Reveal - Honour by M.B. Feeney

M. B. feeney is excited to present the cover for her upcoming release, Honour. A collection of 6 short stories with a miltary theme.
Due for release on 1st November in rememberence of those who have given their lives as part of their job to protect others in times of unrest.

Summary:

The world is filled with people destined to help and to serve. Doctors, nurses, police, and firefighters—each and every day, these special people work to help others in times of need. Often, this means putting their own lives at risk in order to do their jobs. They give of themselves to benefit society, and they do it without any expectation of thanks.

And then there is the military…

These are the men and women who don’t head home to their families and safe homes to relax at the end of a shift. They are on the front lines, far from home and often fighting someone else’s battles because it is the right thing to do.  Military families struggle to cope with the constant worry and the long periods of separation, staying strong to support those who serve in everything they do, and often are left to pick up the pieces when the highest price is paid.

Servicemen and women are heroes in the purest sense of the word. Even when the world’s gone mad and their hearts are breaking, one thing remains unchanged.

They have honour.

Don't forget to add Honour to your 'To read' shelf over on Goodreads

About the Author:

 M. B. Feeney is an army brat who finally settled down in Birmingham, UK with her other half, two kids and a dog.  Currently at university studying for her BA (Hons) in primary teaching, she procrastinates on her assignments by listening to music of all genres and trying to get ‘just one more paragraph’ written on whichever WIP is open. She is also a serious doodler and chocoholic.  Writing has been her one true love ever since she could spell, and publishing is the final culmination of her hard work and ambition.
Her publishing career began with two novellas, and she currently has a novel under way whilst Honour, a compilation of her own military based shorts, is due for release 1st November 2013. Always having something on the go can often lead to block which eventually gets dissolved by good music and an even better book.
