#Review of Dare You by Mari Carr #ContemporaryRomance

In the two years since her divorce was finalized, Josie’s life has become one long, boring routine. She has her hands full as a single parent, and while she’s not looking for a serious relationship, she sure wouldn’t mind getting laid. So she creates the “Howl List”. Every full moon, she will indulge in a different sexual fantasy. Right at the top? Sex without strings.

Fate leads her to the Blue Moon bar. After all, what better place to howl? And when she meets Jake, the sexy bartender, and engages in some red-hot sex with a stranger, her resolution seems to be off to a great start.

At least, until Jake dares her to give him all her full moons…

My Review

I really enjoyed Jake and Josie's story. Jake was hard not to love and Josie was the type of person who you want to find their happily ever after.

There aren't nearly as many single mom romances as their are single dad ones, so I enjoyed seeing how that was dealt with in the story. Josie's ex is a thorn in her side and has an ego to boot. He created a good deal of drama in the story, but I was pleased with how the author dealt with the situations that arose.

As is implied in the blurb, there is quite a bit of sex in this book, but it in no way takes away from the story. I plan to add more of this author's books to my TBR list.

What Is Self Publishing And Is It Right For You? #WriterWednesday

Have you ever heard an author say they're self-published? Twenty years ago, very few authors were self-published and if they were, they weren't selling a lot of books. Since Amazon came on the scene, however, all that has changed.

So what does self-publishing mean exactly?

In self-publishing, the author is the publisher. There's no agent. There's no publishing house investing in story. It's all on the author.

This is a popular option for writers who like to retain control of the publishing and marketing process. When an author signs with a traditional publisher, they are often giving up a lot of control. Many times, they don't even get a say on the cover or the title of the book. By self-publishing, the author has control over all of it.

While this can be exciting for some, it can be scary for others. When an author self publishes their book, they are responsible for lining up editors, cover designers, formatting, and all of the marketing. There's also all the expenses that come with those things.

This can be daunting, but it can also be exhilarating. Some authors want that control. They want to be the one to decide to put an object on the cover or a picture of a couple in a loving embrace. They want to be able to choose who their editor is going to be. And they want to be able to adjust marketing strategies at a moment’s notice as the market changes.

So, is self-publishing right for you?

Sherri picked up her first romance novel when she was twelve and immediately she was hooked. She would stay up reading long after everyone else in her house had gone to bed, needing to see the hero and heroine get their happily ever after. But Sherri never imagined becoming an author.

At the age of thirty, all that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternative ending to give the characters the happy ending they deserved.

Since then, writing has become a creative outlet that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create.

#Review of Too Tempting by Bethany Lopez #Romance

Gabriel "Gabe" Lewis retired from the NFL and returned home to Cherry Springs. He combined his passion for football with camping and is now the owner of a football camp for teens. His summers are dedicated to spending time with family and teaching his campers about the sport he loves.

Zoey Zahn is a quirky, introverted writer and self-proclaimed geek. When she's asked if she’ll accompany her nephew, Christopher, to camp, Zoey agrees, envisioning quiet evenings of writing in the great outdoors. After she stumbles upon Gabe, however, quiet evenings alone are the last thing on her mind.

The chemistry between Gabe and Zoey is undeniable, but as camp ends, a brewing storm causes their blooming relationship to fumble. All Gabe knows is that Zoey is Too Tempting to deny, and he's determined to overcome the obstacles between them to be the man she deserves.

My Review

I had some mixed feelings about this one. The story had some unique elements, which I enjoyed. And it dealt with some of the realistic fallout from the central conflict of the story. My biggest issue was how quickly said conflict was resolved. I just wish the author would have drawn it out a little more and gave us a glimpse of them talking it out.

Other than that, however, I enjoyed the story. The set up was fun and provided a great backdrop for the couple's romance. Gabe was great and Zoey was very much the typical writer getting swept up in her stories and having inspiration strike her at the least opportune times.

I read a review that said the reader was uncomfortable with the story line, however, I didn't have an issue with it. There are plenty of books where the roll is flipped. I liked how the author took a rather common trope and turned it on its head.

#Review of My Best Friend, The Billionaire by Serenity Woods

Never fall in love with your best friend…

I met Hal on the first day of high school.
I also fell in love with Hal on the first day of high school.
But although we were good friends from the start, I knew he’d never be mine.
He’s gorgeous, confident, sexy, and he’s also incredibly rich.
I’m scarred – physically and emotionally – quiet, and my family has always been poor. The two of us are poles apart.
So I’ve trained myself not to think of him in that way.
Not to think of kissing him, undressing him slowly.
Of sliding beneath the bedclothes. Of having his hands on my skin.
I don’t think of it at all.
I can’t. Because Hal never stays with a girl for long, and if he were to have me, then leave me, my heart would break into a million pieces, and I’d never be able to put it together again.
But then he tells me he’s fallen in love with someone. I try to guess who, and he just smiles.
“Izzy,” he says patiently, “it’s you.”
Oh no.

My Review

Serenity Woods has become one of my favorite authors. Her stories are always well written and the romances pull you in and have you rooting for the couple to get together.

This story was no different. Hal and Izzy have been best friends since they were kids, and have liked each other for about as long. When Hal breaks up with his girlfriend, he decides he's done playing games and decides to go after what he wants...Izzy.

The beginning for their relationship was really cute as they transitioned from being best friends to more. There was a side story with his ex that I could have done without, but it also provided some drama and conflict for the story outside of the relationship itself.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. This is the first in a series, and I'm sure I'll be checking out the second book soon.
