“What is it?”
“I’m not really sure.”
“Well is it alive?”
He shrugged. “I don’t think so.”
They both stared into the bucket as if waiting for something to happen. Of course, it didn’t.
Finally the girl spoke up. “Maybe we should give it a burial or something.”
He looked at her as if she’d lost her mind. “We don’t even know what it is.”
She placed her hands on her hips and stared him down until he relented. “Fine. Have it your way. We’ll bury the thing. Somewhere.”
Smiling, she picked up the bucket and began heading toward shore.
