How will Sarah manage when she realizes that Aaron is awakening feelings in her that she’s never felt before? The sexual tension burns hot as these two embark on an unexpected journey that neither are prepared for.

The flight to San Diego was quick, though the one to Hawaii was considerably longer. Somewhere over the Pacific, Sarah fell asleep; the day had obviously taken a toll on her emotions and exhausted her. I wasn’t really tired myself, so I grabbed a magazine from the caddy in front of me and started flipping through it. Not ten minutes later, she shifted in her sleep and leaned over, her head resting on my shoulder.

I froze in place, unsure of what to do. Part of me was screaming to wake her up or at least move her, while the other part of me—the part that tended to take over in any man when there was a sexy goddess nearby—wanted me to savor the moment. I must have warred with myself for three minutes straight until I decided it didn’t matter. There was no harm in letting Sarah sleep on my shoulder on a plane to Hawaii. No harm at all, considering her husband was the one who put us on the flight together.

Unable to resist any longer, I turned my head into her hair and breathed in her intoxicating scent. She smelled like wildflowers and sunshine, and I couldn’t help but inhale more deeply as I closed my eyes.

About the Author

Hot Summer Nights by Bec Rose

Annie Murphy had the picture perfect life. A beautiful home, a wonderful son, and a husband who adored her. It was every woman’s dream until her husband of over twenty years came out of the closet, leaving her a forty-five year old divorcee struggling to regain her confidence. Needing a distraction, she agrees to allow her son’s friend, Jamie, to spend the summer at her house while working as an intern. When Jamie, the cute female intern she’d been expecting turns out to be Jaime, the hot male intern with abs to drool over, it kicks Annie’s fantasies into overdrive. When she realizes that her desires are not one sided, it’s more than the temperature that causes some hot summer nights.

It seemed like forever before he finally made his way back downstairs, and I heard him rummaging through the fridge for something before he walked into the den carrying some homemade chocolate mousse. I moved to the main sofa, sitting down next to him so we were both within reach of the dessert.

“I hope you don’t mind, but I made this before dinner. I have a bit of a sweet tooth.” He grinned at me as he took a bite. I smiled back and dipped my spoon in, groaning at the amazing taste that exploded in my mouth when I took my first bite.

“Oh, god, Jaime, you’re going to make me fat if you cook like this all the time,” I laughed. When I heard no reply, I looked next to me, seeing Jaime staring at my lips with—if I wasn’t completely misinterpreting it—a look of lust in his eyes.

“Oh, um, I’m sorry?” He seemed confused.

“I just said that you’re going to make me fat if you keep cooking like this.”

“You don’t have to worry about that, Annie. You have an amazing figure if you don’t mind me saying.” I was surprised by his comment. It had been a long time since anyone had complimented me like that.

“Oh, well, um…thank you, Jaime,” I replied, embarrassed.

We finished off the dessert, both of us silently deciding to stay on the couch next to each other by settling back as Jaime changed the channel to watch an old movie. It was nice to sit with someone and not feel the need to fill the air with unnecessary conversation. Jaime was easy to just be with, and I was once again glad it had turned out to be a male houseguest instead of a female.

Staring into my eyes, he lowered his head. I could have moved, spoken, coughed…anything, but instead I lifted my chin and allowed him to kiss me.
At first it was chaste, it really was, but when I didn’t pull away, he didn’t either. I felt his tongue poke from between his velvet lips and lick over my lower one. I gasped, and he used that opportunity to find his way into my mouth. As my body began to shake, I groaned. I had to stop this. If I didn’t, I’d end up having sex with him—a total stranger. I knew that because I was ovulating, if I did sleep with him, there was a good chance that I’d become pregnant.
I’d become pregnant.
I had stiffened up at my epiphany, causing him to pull back. “Oh, shit. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”
My mind was racing with the possibility of becoming pregnant tonight. I could go home to Bill in the morning and he and I could have sex. He’d think the baby was his, and maybe it would be, I reasoned with myself. He’d never know and our marriage would be fixed.

At three forty-seven, he heard a car pull up the driveway and rushed to the window to confirm it was Elizabeth. The door to her red Honda Civic opened slowly and she stepped out into the bright afternoon sunshine. He was relieved to see she was in one piece.
As if sensing his stare, she shielded her eyes and looked up, and when she saw him, she gave him a small, nervous smile.
He didn’t suppose he could blame her for that. After his overprotective reaction to her going out, she probably had no idea what she’d find waiting for her when she returned.
Moving away from the window, he chastised himself for his stupidity. How could he be so dumb? She had spent years with a husband who’d abused her, and although he’d never raised his hand to her and never would, she didn’t know that.
He realized he needed to do better for her. No matter what he was feeling, she was not his and may never be. But even if one day she was, he couldn’t allow his emotions to get out of hand; they would frighten her and that was the last thing he wanted.
Why was this so hard with her?
He took a deep breath before collapsing onto his couch. She was home. He could breathe again.
Not two hours later, Chris realized how wrong he’d been. The sound of another vehicle in the driveway roused him from his spot on the couch where he’d been attempting to watch a movie.
His brother’s truck pulled up and parked beside his. He wasn’t expecting Trent to stop by today. Then he stepped out dressed in black slacks and a dark blue, button down dress shirt. The last time Chris had seen his brother this dressed up was at their brother Paul’s wedding.

Weekly Update - August 26, 2013

Hello everyone.

You may have noticed that I didn't post an update last week. If you follow me on Facebook, you probably know why. One week ago today, I was at the dentist having a teeth pulled. Needless to say, the last seven days haven't been a walk in the park for me. Up until two days ago, the area where the tooth previously took residence ached nearly constantly. It was difficult to concentrate, and to be honest, today is the first day since I had the tooth removed that I'm feeling mostly back to normal.

Writing

So while I didn't do a lot last week in my need to rest and recover, that doesn't mean that I don't have news to share. Writing is going well on Paul's book, the 3rd in my Daniels Brothers Series. I'm hovering around 20K, and as long as I can keep pushing forward, I am looking good to finish by my December 1st deadline.

I've also still been working on the first round of edits for Finding Anna, Book 4. And no, I don't have a title for it yet. Trust me, my editor is constantly asking me if I've come up with a title, but nothing has felt right.

Newsletter

Last week I asked on my Facebook page if anyone would be interested if I put out a monthly newsletter. The overwhelming response was YES!

We are still working on the layout, so I'm not sure if there will be one for September or if October will be the first edition, but sign up here so that you don't miss out. I've got some cool ideas for exclusive contests, and newsletter subscribers might just get a few before release teasers of my upcoming books. ;)

Excerpt Second Chances:

I couldn’t believe it when she’d stopped the car. That was a very dangerous thing for a woman to do, but I was so glad she did. When she’d rolled down the window I could barely see her, but what I could make out from the illumination of the dashboard left me breathless. Her skin looked flawless under the soft glow and her hair seemed to reflect back the blue-green light. What intrigued me the most, though, was her voice—the soft sweet voice of an angel.

I was shocked that she had offered me a ride, but I was grateful to be out of the rain. I’d wanted to take her to a nice dinner, partly to thank her and partly to get to know her better, but with it being a small town, nothing was open. I’d settled for a fast food restaurant and would have probably left it at that if the dining area had been open. We would have eaten, she would have left, and I would have gone to the motel.  Fate, however, had a different idea and we’d ended up in my hotel room together.

Sneak Peek Sunday - Eire's Viking by Sandi Layne

Fans of historical romance will be happy to know that Sandi Layne's Éire's Viking trilogy will be continuing early in 2014 with the second book in the series: ÉIRE'S VIKING Beginning approximately ten years after Éire's Captive Moon, ended, this story continues telling of the incursion of the Norsemen into the interior of the green land of Éire.

Summary:

It's been years since Agnarr met his wyrd on the Green Island. Years since he left Charis, his former trell and medicine woman, with her new husband in her new village. Even though he lost her, he cannot help but feel his destiny lies with her people of Éire, so he returns with his final raiding party. Once there, a chance encounter strikes him speechless and without his memory, alone in a foreign land. He is taken to Aislinn, a physician who is serving in Bangor Monastery. Born in Ragor, the village Agnarr destroyed when she was a child, she is now the adopted daughter of Charis and Cowan, and has herself trained in healing. Drawn to her tall, blond patient in a way that she never has been to a man before, she is horrified and angry to find that he is the one responsible for the loss of her home. These are turbulent times in Éire, and there are volatile tempers all around. Still, Agnarr Halvardson would stay on the island, wed, and sire sons to live in strength and plenty in his adopted home. He wants Aislinn to be his wife and the mother of his children, but she won't marry without love. He worships Thor and Odin; she worships Jesu the Christ. Can two from such opposing backgrounds find happiness with one another? Might they even find a love that will change both their worlds?

Excerpt:

Eire forestAt length, her body eased into his, which pleased him. Her cloak and his shirt separated his skin from hers from her neck to mid-thigh. Her bare legs drew his gaze, but he shut his eyes and tilted his head back. By the gods, he had to think. Her illness had pervaded his every thought since she had dropped her bread that morning. They had to get back to her village. He had to figure out how to trade for land so he could farm. He swore under his breath. He should have claimed a share of the bounty from Tuirgeis to give him something to trade. Still, he would try. The berserker would know what to do. As the son of a king, he might be able to help. He could build a langhús of his own. And find a víf. One of the Islander women. He would first have to have the house to bring her to, since he no longer had his own in Balestrand. A gift for the bride night would also have to be secured. And crops. And sheep. This land had many sheep, as he well knew. It rankled more than a little to be in a subservient position, though. He could simply overtake a farm . . . In his arms, the healer shuddered. A cold, clammy sensation slid over his skin. Had she sensed the direction his thoughts were taking? These were her people, after all. No, he should not plan on gaining land by warfare. But chance? Maybe. If Thor was pleased with him, the god himself might make it happen. Yes. More at ease on that score, Agnarr felt his eyes grow heavy. The fire burned low, so he leaned as far as he could, grabbing a branch to throw into it. Sparks flew and he shielded Aislinn’s bare skin with his arm, getting a couple of tiny burns for his trouble. It was of no matter. She was another thing altogether. As his eyes slid shut, his mind found the woman he wanted as his own on the Green Island. She had braids as black as obsidian, eyes as blue as the deepest, purest lake of Nordweg, a form as entrancing as any he had ever seen. Half-dozing with the warmth of Aislinn’s body pressed into his, he noticed too late the intruders into the small camp—and Mjøllnir had been left by the fire when he had removed his shirt.
