Cover Reveal: The One That Got Away by M.B. Feeney

Cover Reveal

The One That Got Away

by M. B. Feeney

Release Date: February 13, 2015

Summary
There’s something about that one person we date in our teens, but never become intimate with. Why does a sexless relationship render us unable to stop carrying that person, the what if, with us into our adult life?

For Heidi Johnson, Shane Hughes is her “one that got away.” Through the years, he has stayed in the back of her mind while she became an adult, a mother, and her own person. Meanwhile, Shane has lived a life of regret that he let Heidi go for the wrong reasons: fear and a misguided sense of not wanting to hurt either of them.

When they reconnect online, the memories they've tried to suppress over the years return, reigniting the feelings never explored ‘back in the day.’ Will a school reunion in their home town of London, surrounded by old school friends, help the pair address the questions the years apart left unanswered? Or will they still be left with wanting more?

Out of the corner of my eye I watched Shane while he settled into the chair and took a swig of his beer. Trying to be discreet, I watched his Adam’s apple bob under the smattering of stubble that was starting to cover his face and neck.

His hands moved from where they caressed my face, stroking my neck down to my shoulders. I gasped when his thumb rubbed the side of my breast as he dropped his hands to my hips

About the Author

 M. B. Feeney is an army brat who finally settled down in Birmingham, UK with her other half, two kids and a dog. Currently at university studying for her BA (Hons) in primary teaching, she procrastinates on her assignments by listening to music of all genres and trying to get ‘just one more paragraph’ written on whichever WIP is open. She is also a serious doodler and chocoholic. Writing has been her one true love ever since she could spell, and publishing is the final culmination of her hard work and ambition.
Her publishing career began with two novellas, and she currently has a novel under way, whilst Honour, a compilation of her own military based shorts, is due for release 1st November 2013. Always having something on the go can often lead to block which eventually gets dissolved by good music and an even better book.

Merry Christmas

Tomorrow is Christmas for those of us who celebrate. It's a time when most of us gather with our families, open gifts, and hopefully reflect on what it all represents.

When my grandparents were still alive the entire family used to assemble at their house for a big lunch on Christmas Day. Everyone would bring a couple of side dishes. Grandma would make her homemade chicken and noodles, mac and cheese, and buckeyes. We'd even set up saw horses in my grandparent's living room and lay sheets of plywood on top to make a large table everyone could sit around. I remember those times fondly. I even remember that my one aunt and all her family was always late and we were usually starving before she showed up.

The years have passed, and times have changed. My grandparents have been gone for many years. My cousins are all grown up with kids of their own. Some of them even have grand kids. We aren't as close as we used to be. Life does that. Traditions change. Time moves on.

Although time has changed things, it doesn't mean the reason we celebrate has. I don't often talk about my faith, nor will I do that here other than to say that I am a Christian. I do celebrate Christmas. And whether you do or not shouldn't matter. Everyone can take something out of the Christmas holiday.

Peace.

Love.

Hope.

Good Will Towards Men.

Those are all things we can and should embrace. Not only during the holiday season, but throughout the year.

The Joy Of Editing...NOT

Editing has to be the absolute worst part of being an author. At least, it is for me. I dread opening that file from my editor knowing I have to go through every word one at a time. On one hand I just want to put it off for as long as possible. On the other, I want to get it done so it can get off my desk and I can move on to something more pleasant.

This past week has been all about edits for me. Burning For Her Kiss is releasing on February 12, 2015, and the there is still a lot to do between now and then.

I enjoyed the months I spent writing Beth and Drew's story. It's been unlike anything I've written in the past, yet still at it's heart it is about two people falling in love. I'm a die hard romantic at heart, and hopefully that will never change.

That being said, I still hate edits. They always put me in a bad mood. I wish I could point to the thing about them that irritates me, but I can't. If I had to take a guess, though, it's probably because editing is one of the sides of writing that has nothing to do with creativity. Even marketing taps into the creative process. Writing the book, creating the cover...some bit of creativity is involved. Not so with editing.

Leave a comment below and tell me what is your favorite, and least favorite, part of the 'creative' process.

What Reviewers Are Saying:

"The Divine Trilogy was an emotional journey for not only these characters, but for me as a reader. I could not have asked for any more from Ms. Hargrave than what she did – write a beautiful story about intriguing characters that entertained me and touched my heart. And in doing so, she has earned not only my admiration and respect, but gratitude.  The dictionary defines the word divine as being supremely good or superb; in that case, The Divine Trilogy was appropriately titled because that’s exactly how good this series was. This is a must read series!" ~Robin with Sizzling Hot Books

"What an amazing 3rd book in this series! I love this series like no other! Jayden is one smoking, sexy, caring Dom that loves with all he has! Erin is an amazing sub that keeps surprising me as the story goes on! She's strong, sensual, caring, loving and most of all submits to her Dom with all her soul! This is one of those books that you want more from, one that gives you so much that you keep taking it all in and just can't stop! I loved this series and hope and pray there are more like this one to come from an amazing Author who has put so much into what she writes!" ~Maria, Goodreads Reviewer

There is so much more to this story than you can possibly imagine! The plot of Surreal unfolds in layers. The writing keeps you guessing, questioning and wanting more information. The writing is also clever and witty, even humorous at times! I highly recommend this story to any BDSM lover and anyone who wants to read about an emotionally moving love story that will leave you thinking about it for days!" Kristin, Goodreads Reviewer

Excerpt:
Before the driver could pull the car out of the parking lot, Jillian was talking a mile a minute. Paige seemed to be following it all, but Erin felt lost while she watched them banter like a tennis match.

“Whoa, slow down. We’ve got all day and the only actual appointment is at the dress shop. Paige is meeting the seamstress who will be doing the custom work on her gown.”

Paige and Jillian shared a look.

“What?” Erin was on alert at once.

“Erin, sweetie,” Paige began.

“Oh, no. This isn’t about me today, Paige. We’re doing stuff for your wedding, not mine. Jayden and I haven’t even set a date yet.”

“And? Your point is?”

Jillian took over, “Because you two haven’t pinned down a date is all the more reason to get busy straight away. There is so much to sort out and plan—”

“I don’t know. In my mind, I kind of thought it would be small and quick.”

Paige snorted at that, and Erin kicked her friend in the shin before she said something not suitable for Jillian’s ears.

Jillian leaned toward Erin to lay a manicured hand on her knee. “I’ve waited almost forty years for my son to get married. This is one event that will not be downplayed if I have anything to say about it.”

Erin felt her eyes begin to lower under the intensity of her future mother-in-law’s stare. Paige nudged her knee, which reminded her that submitting to one Masterson was quite enough.

“Surely you’ve got some ideas, Erin? A general time frame and colors, for instance.”

The young woman’s thoughts went to the ink encircling her waist. It captured her heritage, the red and green braiding a permanent reminder of her Irish roots.

Paige clapped. “That dreamy look means yes!”

Across from her, Jillian relaxed into her seat with a smug grin, and Erin threw up her hands. “Fine. Bear in mind that I haven’t discussed any of this with Jayden yet—and no decisions will be made without him.”

“Yeah, yeah. Give us the goods, girl,” Paige said with a snicker.

“Well, I don’t want white.” She glanced at Jillian and was relieved her preference didn’t seem to be an issue. “I’ve always liked ivory—it’s more down to earth. For accents, I was thinking red and green. Oh, and for flowers,” she smiled at the secret she shared with her Dom, “I’m pretty sure Jayden will want orchids.”

“Good, keep going.” A notepad had materialized in Paige’s hands, and she was scribbling at a furious pace.

Erin shook her head in amusement. “I like roses, too, so maybe we can combine them?” She continued to ponder aloud. “As for when, that will all depend on when Jayden can take time off from work—”

“My dear child, that boy would move mountains for you. If you have a special date you want, I assure you that business will not keep him from making it happen.”

Go back to the beginning:

When Jayden Masterson–a gentleman Dom with a taste for perfection–meets a submissive with a mysterious past and a natural desire to submit, he can’t resist the spark that ignites inside him. He wants to learn everything about Catherine O’Chancey; not just the intricacies of her body, but her mind as well. But does she want the same? Can Catherine stand up to her past and find the right Dom who can make her feel alive again?

#Review A SEALs Surrender by Tawny Weber

Title: A SEAL's Surrender
Author: Tawny Weber
Rating: 4 stars

I think I picked this book up as a free download on Amazon a while back. Harlequin books are usually good for a decent read, and I've found over the last few years that I prefer their Blaze series over some of the others. There is a little more spice to the romance.
That being said,

A SEAL's Surrender is the best Harlequin title I've read in a while.

There were a lot of things I liked about this book. First was it's two main characters, Cade and Eden. They grew up as neighbors, so there wasn't the need to invent a believable way for them to meet and get to know each other. The connection was already there, all they needed was a catalyst to get things moving in the right direction.

While I had a basic idea of how things would eventually unfold, the author a good job with keeping my interest. I love romance novels. They are just about all I read. However, I do have a slight pet peeve that occurs in way too many books within the genre and unfortunately this book had it as well. I hate when lies or miscommunication is what tears couples apart. It's a common trope, but one I despise. It makes the the characters seem immature and not truly ready for an adult relationship.

Even still, I enjoyed this book and will probably check out more of this author's work. There were a few editing issues, however they didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the story.

I recommend this story for those who like romances that revolve around strong military heroes and happily ever afters.

Book One in the Awakenings Series

By Lisa Bilbrey

NOW AVIALABLE ON AMAZON!

  Summary:

Elle Reid and Sadie Williams are best friends, turned lovers. Always considering themselves to be friends with benefits, they opt to let loose and celebrate after landing a high-profile project with the best architecture firm in San Francisco.

Callum Davis and Derek Flores have been the best friends since they met freshman year. While they've admitted their attraction to each other, neither have the courage to act on their feelings, both fearful of losing their friendship. At least, not until they meet Elle and Sadie at Club Venom.

Elle, Sadie, Callum, and Derek embark on a life-changing journey that defies what society tells them is normal. But when you find yourselves in love with multiple partners, how do you choose? And what will happen when their families find out about their unconventional relationship? Is their forbidden awakening worth unraveling the secrets they've been keeping?

 Excerpt:

“And when you moved to L.A., did you find what you needed there?”
Nodding, he said, “A part of it. I was terrified to leave home, but when I met Callum, got to know him, I found someone I knew I could count on. Callum’s my best friend, Elle. I’ve cared about him for a long time.”
“Are you in love him?” Elle questioned. Derek opened his mouth to reply, but clamped his lips together before he could utter a sound. “You are, aren’t you? You’re in love with him.”
“I don’t know,” he admitted, sliding his hand onto her hip. “I don’t know what I feel right now. He’s everything I never knew he could be. In my family, men aren’t supposed to love each other like this, Elle. They’re not supposed to want to kiss them, to make love to them, but I do want to kiss Callum and make love to him. I just . . . I just want him.”
“Hey, you don’t have to explain that to me,” she groused. “My parents would disown me if they knew anything about you, Callum, and Sadie. I learned a long time ago not to expect their approval, Derek. And not just because of my attraction to Sadie, either. They made it clear that I wasn’t the daughter they wanted me to be, but I’m okay with that because I’m happy with who I am. I have Sadie, and you and Callum now. My sister and her fiancé love me, support me, and I’m all right, ya know?”
“You know I care about you, Elle, don’t you?” His tone was almost pleading. “You and Sadie — you’re not just a causal fuck for me or Callum. It’s important that you know that you’re both important to us.”
“Of course I do,” she murmured, trying to keep her emotions from betraying her. “I care about you, too, Derek. So much that it scares me.”
“What scares you?” he whispered.
Elle’s eyes closed, and she took a ragged breath. “I don’t want to lose you. The thought of not having you in my life makes my heart ache.”
“Look at me,” he ordered and her eyes opened in a heartbeat. “We are not leaving you, at least not unless you want us to. Do you understand that? Callum and I will never pressure you to give us more than you feel comfortable with.”
All Elle could do as tears filled her eyes was nod. The warm drops sprinkled against her cheeks.
“Don’t cry, beautiful,” he cooed, leaning forward and brushing his lips across hers.
“Then don’t be so fucking sweet,” she whimpered, smiling through the cascade of tears. “I trust you, Derek. You, Callum, and Sadie — you’re everything I never thought I deserved.”
With a kick of his foot, Derek sent their dishes crashing to the floor before closing the small space between bodies and reminding Elle how much he wanted her.
