What I'm Currently Reading #FridayReads
Next on my TBR list is The Diamond Courier by Hannah Byron. I'm going out of my comfort zone with this book. It's historical fiction with a touch of romance and is written by one of my fellow podcast co-host. I can't wait to dive in!
England, 1939
Would you settle for a marriage of convenience even if your intended is your best friend?
Restless and independent, Lili Hamilton dreams of becoming a radical journalist. To avoid the scandal of her broken engagement to Scotsman Iain Brodie, her traditional parents send her to finishing school in Switzerland. On the way to her exile, she meets the dashing Leo Oppenheim, leader of the British Communist party, and a whole new world opens up for Lili.
As the rhetoric of Hitler booms across the Continent and World War II erupts, Lili flees to Leo in London, embracing communist ideals and free love. But causes need money to thrive, and Leo has set his sights on a daring raid of the biggest diamond center in war-torn Europe: Antwerp.
Lili infiltrates the Jewish community in Belgium and befriends both the Goldmunz family and Gestapo leader Ulrich Lemberg. Despite the horrors of war, despite witnessing the murder of a comrade, she becomes the diamond courier between Antwerp and London.
With terrible consequences…
The Diamond Courier is a young woman’s fight to liberate herself from her privileged upbringing, for which she pays the highest price. Will love conquer over politics?

Review of My Best Friend's Mardi Gras Wedding
Josh Landry is one of the hottest bartenders in New Orleans. He’s shown many a female tourist that things are definitely big and easy down here.
And he’s now been celibate for a year. Because he finally met her.
Yes, her. The One.
But, after nothing more than a hot goodnight kiss and a promise to meet up again next year if they’re both still interested, she went home to Iowa.
It’s been a long year.
But now it’s Mardi Gras again and he’s ready for his happily ever after.
If she shows up.
***
Oh, she shows up. For her best friend’s wedding.
But Tori is a terrible bridesmaid because all she can think about is her knight-in-shining-Mardi-Gras-beads from last year.
Well, and because she accidentally lays a hot kiss on her BFF.
Aka, the groom.
Unfortunately, no one believes that it was a case of mistaken identity. So, now she has to convince everyone she has no intention of ruining the wedding. She’s going to need a crazy-about-her boyfriend ASAP. Even if he’s just faking it.
Well there’s only one other person she knows in Louisiana...
Josh is all in. In fact, he’s thrilled. And he’s not faking anything.
But the groom isn’t faking his sudden case of cold feet either.
And now Tori might have a choice to make.
I dove into this one and had to force myself to stop reading at 1am.
This book had a very star-crossed lovers feel to it. The blurb makes it seem as if it's a love triangle, but it really isn't. These two only have eyes for each other from the start and seeing them come to the realization that they really are it for each other was swoon worthy.
I was never a fan of her best friend. And his betrothed was even worse. Josh's family was quirky and fun, the perfect counter balance to the stuffy wedding Tori is taking part in.
This is the first book in the series, and I have no doubt that the second book will be just as good.

Revamping My Website
One of the first things I did when I signed the contract on my debut novel was to set up a website. It helps readers and bloggers find you and your books. My website has taken on a few recreations over the years. When I created my first one, I had no idea what I was doing. It was very basic (of course I only had one book at the time), and wasn't very user friendly.
As time went on, I became more comfortable with my brand, the types of books I typically write, and marketing in general. I did some research and looked at what some of the other popular authors in the genre were doing.
But websites are living creatures. They need to evolve with your business whether you're manufacturing a widget or writing books. About six months ago, after taking a marketing class, I realized the website I currently have wasn't doing all I needed it to do. It needed to change, grow.
So for the last few weeks I've been rebuilding my website. It's been a lot of work re-entering everything, including the buy links to all the retail sites that sell my books, but in the end I believe it will be worth it.
One of the big changes that's coming is that I will now have a shop on my site. Readers will be able to not only purchase signed books from me, but I also have plans to offer merch as well for those who are interested.
A paddle with my logo on it? What do you think?
