The gentle waves crashed against the rocks further up the
beach as he walked through the wet sand along the shoreline. He’d always found the sound of water peaceful.
There was something about the ebb and flow of the ocean that restored a sense
of balance to his senses.
It was exactly what he needed, and why he’d come back to his
childhood home. His life had been turned upside down in a matter of moments,
and with one simple phrase. I’m sorry.
Never before had he realized the weight of such simplicity...the
devastation it could cause, and the heartache.

I like the line about bringing a sense of balance back to him by walking the beach where he called home. Was it he who said "I'm sorry" or someone else?
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the beautiful things about flash fiction. You can make up the all the what-ifs in your mind and fill in the blanks however you want. :)
DeleteOoh, now I want to know what brought him here. Lovely writing.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteBeautiful flash. I so hope he gains inner peace
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, and yes, it got me wondering who said that to him
ReplyDeleteLovely writing and full of questions, just as a great tease should be!
ReplyDeleteI felt like I was there with him. Very well written, Sherri. "I'm sorry" is such a powerful phrase. I'm very curious about this one. You'll need to write more.
ReplyDeleteOk you have me hooked. I want to be the little bird and hear what happened and what bought him back to this spot. I loved this. I want to know more. :)
