As teenagers, time is infinite and love is made of fairy tales and caramel corn. For Alexis York and Ryan Fisher, their friendship was the cornerstone of who they were. In the wake of a family tragedy, that friendship was torn apart by time and distance. Unrequited love was never reciprocated, and two lives that were once intertwined, now moved on different trajectories. Fifteen years later, these two friends are given a second chance to correct the mistakes of the past. With one flight, a new home, and a little help from a tiny red compass, Alexis and Ryan are reunited, setting them back on the same course. Together, they find themselves on a journey of rediscovery, friendship, hope, and love. Yet, when the harsh realities of life threaten to tear them apart for good, will Alexis and Ryan lose all hope of a happily ever after? Or will the childhood promises of forever lead these two hearts through impossible odds and back into each other's arms?
"You're my compass. My one true north."

54166-excerpt
“Everything all right?” Ryan asked. “Not really. I have a passenger who’s about to drive me bonkers. Ever since you turned off the fasten seatbelt sign…” she trailed off. “What’s wrong?” “She wants to speak with you.” Kix started to unbuckle his seatbelt. “What about?” “Not you, Captain. Fisher.” She cast a sideways glance to Ryan. Ryan pushed back. “Me?” He poked his own chest and wondered why this woman would want to speak with him. Not that he minded, but he was second in command. This wasn’t a commonplace occurrence. People usually wanted the captain, not the co-pilot. The stray hair fell back into Makenna’s eyes, only agitating her more. She thrust her hand through her midnight locks, forcing the hair out of her face. “Yep. You.” Kix laughed, smacking Ryan on the back. “Good luck, Buddy. Glad it’s you and not me.” Ryan winced at the sting of the slap. “I’ve never had a passenger ask for me before. They’re usually disappointed to get me instead of the captain.” Makenna smiled, her over-exaggerated irritation disappeared. “She wanted me to give this to you.” As Makenna opened her hand, Ryan leaned over and glanced at the object lying in her palm. He recognized it immediately. It was an old, faded red toy compass. “She said to tell you ‘forever and always’.” Ryan took the compass and flipped it over between his fingertips, examining it closely. It was worn with age, the plastic soft to the touch. As he held the tiny toy in his hand, a huge smile exploded over his face. This couldn’t be. It wasn’t possible. But the evidence was real. Alexis was here. On his flight. “What’s that she gave you?” Kix inquired. “It’s a compass,” Ryan murmured, his own voice sounding soft and distant to his ears. “Well, no shit, Sherlock. I mean what’s it for?” Ryan flashed Makenna a cocky smirk and turned to Kix. “A compass,” he began, with sarcasm dripping from his tongue, “is a device used to determine geographic location. If you didn’t learn that much in flight school, maybe I should be the one flying this bird.” Kix’s mouth dropped to his chest. “Smart ass.” Ryan laughed as he removed his headset. “Maybe, but I have a passenger to speak with.” He unbuckled his seatbelt and stood up, moving around Makenna. “Passenger in D2,” she called out. Ryan straightened his tie and took a deep breath, making his way out to the main cabin. He looked around the curtain separating the gully from the cabin, and his heart skipped a beat. Sitting in seat D2 was his Alexis. She was looking in a mirror, applying lip gloss. This was the woman he’d seen in the pictures on Facebook. Poised, sophisticated, and beautiful. Her thick brown hair hung straight down her back. Her lips plump and pink, and her big brown eyes were accentuated with the right amount of eye makeup to make them standout. She was gorgeous and perfect. Everything Ryan remembered her to be. He took a deep breath, stepped around the curtain, and walked over to the row of seats she was sitting in. Next to her sat an older woman with hair white as snow. He heard the elderly woman say something to her as he approached, but couldn’t quite make out what it was. “Excuse me, Miss, but I do believe this is yours,” he greeted, a playful hint to his tone. He flashed his best smile as she looked up at him from the mirror. His hand shook, just slightly, as he opened his palm to reveal the toy compass. The moment their eyes met, time stood still.

#Review Ready To Burn by Tracey Alvarez

Title: Ready To Burn
Author: Tracey Alvarez
Rating: 5 stars

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

It's been a while since I've read a book I felt deserved 5 stars, but this one does. Not only did the story keep me engaged, but there were parts where I burst out laughing.

This was the third book in the series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. The author did a great job giving us enough information about the other characters so new readers wouldn't feel lost, but not enough where the entire story was being retold.

I loved Del and Shaye. They had amazing chemistry and the evolution of their relationship was believable. There was also a lot of character growth in this story from the main characters. They both started out in completely different places than where they ended up.

This book was also very well edited and the pacing was perfect. I never felt the story was rushed, and it didn't drag either. Two nights in a row I stayed up well past my bedtime trying to read just one more chapter.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a great contemporary romance with a culinary flare.

Short Excerpt

“Panty hose are a tool of the devil. On a tall woman, the crotch hangs at knee level, so she’s forced to crouch and shuffle like Quasimodo. If a woman’s vertically challenged, the things slither downward, pooling around her ankles like a reptilian second skin. My troubles began with panty hose.”

#Review When Love Comes by J.H. Croix

Title: When Love Comes
Author: J.H. Croix
Rating: 3 stars

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I struggled with what rating to give this book. The two main characters,Luke and Hannah, were very likable, as were many of the supporting cast. Their love story wasn't rushed, which I liked. And you can't beat Alaska as a backdrop.

Given this was the author's first book, I padded my rating a little. An author's first book is a learning experience in many ways. The overall story was good. It was the execution where I had issues.

This book was badly in need of a developmental editor, in my opinion. There was a lot of repetition of situations, phrases, and even words. It got to the point that I could see a rehashing of a conversation coming and so I skimmed through a paragraph or two because it was almost word for word what I'd read a few chapters before.

I also felt that the author spent too much time on descriptions of people's clothing. Every time we met someone new in the story we were told what they were wearing. And there was a lot of telling and not showing. All of which could be fixed with the help of a good editor.

This was a sweet romance with just a touch of heat. The relationship was good, but the overall pacing of the story needed work.

I would recommend this book to those who love Alaskan romances and don't mind a slower paced story.

Eden better get ready, because she’s about to play the Single Game.
The Single Game is the latest addition to the erotic Apartment Novels series, which began with Lily and Ethan in The Apartment and The Blank Canvas.

~Excerpt~

There were times when I could swear that I felt his eyes on me, but I couldn’t bring myself to look. I didn’t want to see him looking away again to avoid me, or even worse, find out that he hadn’t been looking at all.
That’s when it dawned on me that I definitely wanted him to be looking at me, and the realization almost made me cry.
It [A1] really sucked to already know that there was no possibility with the first guy who interested me.
As I gathered up my things in my bag, I couldn’t help but notice his forearm on the table next to me. It was covered with the prettiest hair, and his muscles kept flexing. I looked further, landing on his long, slender fingers clenching into a fist.
Why hadn’t I ever noticed how sexy his hands were?
I suddenly mourned the loss of those beautiful fingers ever touching me.
And I mourned the friendship that I thought I’d had with a sweet, quiet boy.
When the bell finally rang, freeing me from that torment, I wiped at the traitorous tears that were beginning to spill over onto my cheeks. Tossing my bag over my shoulder, I muttered a barely audible, “Bye, Logan,” before busting ass out of the room and heading straight to my locker.
When I finally got the combination to work, I threw the metal door open and shoved a few books inside. Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to calm down. There was no reason to get so worked up over something that quickly.
“Eden?” I heard his voice beside me. Why hadn’t I ever realized how rich it sounded?
Perhaps because he was always mumbling and avoiding me.
I took another deep breath to steady myself before shutting my locker and turning to face him. “Yeah?”
He was looking down at me through those fucking cute glasses, and all I could think in the back of my mind was: When did his eyes get so pretty? They were almost pure gray.
It took him a moment to speak; he kept looking at me, no doubt taking in the redness of my eyes and my puffy lids. It was without question the longest we had ever maintained eye contact.
“You weren’t bothering me,” he finally whispered.
“What?” I asked, not quite sure I had heard him right.
“Last night. You thought you were bothering me. I should have spoken up instead of letting you walk away.”
“You don’t have to spare my feelings, Logan. I get it. I know I talk too much sometimes.” I looked at him and gave him a weak smile. “I’m just sorry that I didn’t realize how annoying I was before now.”
“No! Dammit… that’s what I’m trying to tell you!” He looked almost frantic for a moment, like he didn’t know what to do, and then the next thing I knew his soft, beautiful hands were holding each side of my face, forcing me to look at him. His thumbs moved slightly over the surface of my cheeks, as if he were memorizing the texture, and I wanted to reach my tongue out and lick one his thumb as it grazed the side of my mouth. “Listen to me, Eden. You have never annoyed me. Never.”
He glanced down at my lips as he finished speaking, and I could swear that I heard the slightest whimper under his breath. Before I had time to process what that sound was doing to my body, he was gone.
I looked around, but he was nowhere in sight.
Leaning back against my locker for a moment, I let out a huge gust of air that I hadn’t realized I’d been holding. My pulse was pounding in my ears and my legs felt wobbly.
What the hell just happened?
