This past weekend I was in Austin, Texas for the Texas Book Festival. It was a great time and I was able to reconnect with some people I'd met in the past and meet some great new individuals as well. So much of what authors do in this day and age is behind a computer screen. It's only at events like this that we get to have face to face contact with both readers and other authors.
Saturday night I was chatting with an editor. During this conversation she mentioned that she'd had a problem with a few authors she'd worked with where they would want her to prove some grammatical rule before they would agree to make the change she was recommending. They're writers, after all. This is their craft. They know how to write sentences.
My response was that she wouldn't have to worry about that with me. I'm not a writer. I'm a storyteller.
This might seem like semantics, but I promise that it's not. As a storyteller, I am focused on telling the story to the best of my ability. This means I am less concerned with spelling and grammar. That is what I have editors for. I don't profess to know what dangling participles are, or whether or not I'm using subjunctive tense. They have nothing to do with the story itself. Again, there is a reason I have editors.
While not all 'writers' fall into this category, many of them do. I've met quite a few in the four years I've been published. Some have graduated from college with an English or Creative Writing degree. Others simply feel they have a solid grasp on the English language and refuse to be told that something they thought was right is in fact wrong.
So which one are you? Leave a comment below and tell us if you consider yourself a writer or a storyteller.

Looking Back At 2013, and Looking Forward to 2014
What a year!
I can honestly can I don't think I've ever been as busy as I was in 2013. This year I published two new novels,
Red Zone (Daniels Brothers #2)
After a case ended badly for Rebecca Carson, she’s losing her
mind sitting around her apartment waiting on her superiors to allow her to
return to work. Since she was a teenager, the only thing she’d ever wanted was
to join the FBI. Now that dream was in danger.
and Trust (Finding Anna, Book 3)
I also traveled to West Chester, OH, Colorado Springs, CO, Las Vegas, NV, Austin, TX, and Allen, TX. Throughout my travels I met some great people, authors and readers alike. Here are some pictures:
Lori Foster's Reader and Author Get Together - West Chester, OH
RomCon - Colorado Springs, CO
RNC - Las Vegas, NV
My biggest regret of 2013 is that I didn't get a whole lot of reading done. With all the traveling, I spent most of my time writing and editing. With that said, I did manage to get some new books read this year.
My favorite…
Hotblooded by Erin Nicholas
And it’s
been causing Brooke Donovan trouble her whole life. But it wasn’t until her
mother took on the most powerful man in Honey Creek, Texas, that Brooke truly
realized the daughter of the town whore didn’t stand a chance. When she left,
it was supposed to be for good. But now, thanks to her late husband’s deal with
their hometown, she’s back in the last place on earth she wants to be.
Temporarily. As soon as her debts are paid off, she’s outta here. Until in
walks the one man who can make her rethink everything.
Cali
Stanton has one goal in life, being a doctor. She does not intend to run the
family business. But when her father gets injured and tells her that she’s the
only one he trusts, Cali finds herself behind his desk at Stanton
Enterprises.
Brianna is lost for the fourth time in her life. Each time was
unexpected, and each changed the course of her future. The first life-altering
event occurred when her mother died, and she moved to Minnesota to live with
her father.

mind sitting around her apartment waiting on her superiors to allow her to
return to work. Since she was a teenager, the only thing she’d ever wanted was
to join the FBI. Now that dream was in danger.
Gage Daniels has made a pretty good life for himself. A nice
house. A career he loves. As a professional football player, he’s used to
getting almost everything he’d ever want with just the snap of his fingers.
This includes women. A well-timed smile is usually all it takes to attract the
opposite sex, especially in Nashville.
When a stalker threatens Gage, the team owner calls an old
friend, Rebecca’s ex-partner Travis Hansen, to help protect his star
quarterback and find the person responsible. Hansen offers Rebecca the job, and
she jumps at the chance. It’s work, and it will get her out of her apartment.
How bad can it be?
Posing as Gage’s girlfriend, however, isn’t as easy as it seems.
The man is relentless. Rebecca must work to protect Gage while staving off his
advances. She’s there to do a job, nothing more. The last thing she wants is to
be another notch on a hotshot athlete’s belt.
As
the stalker continues to up the ante, Rebecca finds it harder and harder to
keep her distance from Nashville’s star quarterback. He isn’t what she expected
in one of the city’s most notorious playboys. Now all she has to do is keep him
safe until they can find his stalker, and hope she doesn’t lose her heart in
the process.
For
the last two months, Brianna has discovered something she never thought she
would again. Hope. After the horror of being Ian’s slave for ten months, a fate
she never imagined she’d escape, it feels as if she is living a dream. She has
freedom she hadn’t expected to have again, and she wakes up every morning not
fearing what the day will bring.
There
is also Stephan. The man who saved her from the daily torture she had to endure
at the hands of Ian and his friends. The same man who makes her heart race with
just the thought of him. Life is good.
Outside
forces are determined to conspire against them, however. When Brianna’s father
shows up on her doorstep, it sends her world spiraling out of control. He
brings with him new information about how Brianna ended up in Ian’s clutches,
but will it make a difference? Will Stephan be able to find a way to make Ian
pay for all he made Brianna suffer?
As
Brianna and Stephan try to find out the truth, their relationship is tested.
She is forced to face her past head on and deal with the ugly reality of what
happened to her. Will Stephan’s love be enough to see her through her newest
challenge, or will the fragile trust they’ve built come crumbling down around
them as the truth makes itself known.

Dr. Jack
Silver fixes things. So, when he learns his uncle is responsible for Brooke
losing her husband, his sense of honor drives him across Texas to make amends.
Instead of a broken woman, though, he finds a gorgeous, feisty physician’s
assistant trying to survive in a town that wants her gone. She also has a mile-high
fence built out of pride—and a clinic that’s at risk of going belly up. She may
not want his money, but the clinic? He can fix that. He just never expects that
in setting Brooke back on her feet, he’ll be swept right off his own.

So what's next in 2014?
Right now I'm about 20 pages from finishing my re-edit of Hidden Threat. I'm hoping to have that finished within the next few days. After that, it will go to my publisher for polishing, and then reissue. If you've already purchased an ebook of Hidden Threat in the past, you should be able to download the updated version once it's available, which will also include the new cover.

Cali
Stanton has one goal in life, being a doctor. She does not intend to run the
family business. But when her father gets injured and tells her that she’s the
only one he trusts, Cali finds herself behind his desk at Stanton
Enterprises.
Matthew
Andersen and his brother Jason have spent the last two years managing security
at Stanton Enterprises. But when someone threatens the company and its CEO,
challenging Matthew’s abilities, what seems like an easy task, becomes a big
problem.
Cali
and Matthew must fight their growing attraction for each other to avoid a
potentially damaging office romance. As the threats continue, they must work
together to keep the company running and discover who is behind the threats.
But
when things escalate to violence and Cali becomes the latest target, things get
personal. Can Matthew find the Hidden Threat before it’s too late?
I will also be releasing the 4th and final book in my Finding Anna Series, Trust.
Available March 20, 2014.
Brianna is lost for the fourth time in her life. Each time was
unexpected, and each changed the course of her future. The first life-altering
event occurred when her mother died, and she moved to Minnesota to live with
her father.
The second was when she was kidnapped at the age of seventeen
and forced to be a slave. She would never forget those ten months. Brianna
thought her life was over.
Everything changed again the day Stephan steamrolled into her
life and brought her home to live with him. She had no idea what to expect—what
life with her new Master would hold. That first month with Stephan was, in some
ways, more confusing than the prior ten. As a slave, she’d known her place.
With Stephan everything was new and different. He’d given her freedom and so
much more.
Five months after Stephan rescued her, Brianna once again finds
her life flipped upside down.
In
this fourth, and final, installment of Finding Anna, Brianna must unearth
strength she never knew she possessed. Stephan can no longer protect her from
the outside world. She must learn to trust herself, embrace who she is, and
discover who she wants to be. Only by facing her demons can Brianna find true
happiness and peace.

Weekly Update - November 4, 2013
Hello everyone. I hope you had a great Halloween. My October flew by way faster than what I would have liked, but part of that was because I spent five days in Austin, TX for the Texas Book Festival. I'm home for a few more days, and then I'm headed back to Texas for Readers and Ritas. The last time I checked there were still a few tickets left, but that was several days ago. If you'd like more information, you can check out their website here. After that, I'm home for the remainder of the year. I don't mind traveling, but I have to admit that it will be nice to not have to go anywhere for a while. This month I'm primarily focused on getting Paul and Megan's book finished. It's the third book in my Daniels Brothers Series, and I know a lot of you are anxiously anticipating Paul's book. If you haven't read any of the Daniels brothers' books, then you are missing out. Behind Closed Doors is the first in the series, followed by Red Zone. Paul's book is slated to release late next year, and I can't wait.
I also know you are all waiting with baited breath for the fourth and final installment of my Finding Anna Series. I am happy to report that the manuscript for Trust has been sent to the formatter, and will be making its way to the marketing department soon. March 20, with be here before we know it.
If you haven't registered for the Big Cocks and Broomsticks giveaway, there is still time. The giveaway is open until November 11th, and there are some great prizes up for grabs from all the participating websites, including the grand prize from the host blog of a $100 Amazon or B&N gift card. Weekly Update - October 14, 2013
Wow. You all have blown me away by your responses to last Monday's post. There have been close to 100 entries so far. Keep them coming! I will be deciding on a winner Sunday, October 20th, and announcing it here on my blog next Monday, October 21st.

I've been busy lately working on edits for Hidden Threat. If you've missed my posts about it on Facebook, I'm going back through my very first published novel, Hidden Threat, and tweaking it a bit. A lot of people are asking me if they should wait to get it until I'm finished with the edits, and that's difficult for me to answer. The story itself isn't changing. I'm not adjusting plots, or removing sub-plots. What I'm doing is purely technical...fixing spelling errors, reworking sentences to make them flow better...that kind of thing.
I'm also finding that I liked to use a lot of disembodied language back then.
What is disembodied language? It's when you give an object the ability to do something it can't. For example, a hand can't snatch something from a table. The person the hand is attached to can, but the hand doesn't move independently.
To be perfectly honest, this is something that is very common in novels, romance novels especially, but I've been working hard to fix that aspect of my writing over the last year or so. I figure if I'm doing the work to go back through Hidden Threat, I might as well do it right while I'm at it.
The other thing topping my 'to-do' list recently is my two upcoming trips to Texas. I leave in 9 days for Austin, and then about two weeks after that I'm heading to Dallas. It's going to be a busy time for me, but I'm looking forward to meeting readers, both old and new. If you missed the information on my upcoming events, I've posted it below.
