Excerpt

CiCi was relieved when they pulled up to a brownstone that had been converted into apartments only ten blocks away from her own home.

Once inside, Daniel told CiCi to text Emily his address while they rode the elevator to his apartment. Not ten seconds later, Emily had texted with a warning to remember to use a condom.

CiCi laughed, and Daniel caught sight of the text.

He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. “I was hoping you’d share a drink with me, but if you’re interested in taking things further . . .”

Her face heated at the thought of his lips discovering the rest of her body as he began to kiss the side of her neck.

            “How about a drink first?”

“Of course,” he answered when the elevator stopped at his floor.

They were in his apartment with their coats off within a minute. She instantly fell in love the place. It was a loft style apartment that looked like a comfortable bachelor pad. A chocolate brown couch with large cushions sat in his living room area in front of a flat screen TV. A queen-sized bed with a dark blue comforter was made in his bedroom area. What she loved the most was the small Christmas tree decorated in silver and blue standing on a corner table. He reclaimed her attention when his hand found hers and led her through the two seat dining area over to his small kitchen.

Daniel picked her up and set her on the butcher-block kitchen island, then gave her a soft kiss. “I’m not a big beer drinker, but I do have some apple ale, if you’re interested. I always have some on hand during the holidays.” He opened his refrigerator and pulled out two green glass bottles.

She smiled when she caught a glimpse of the familiar label. “I love this brand. Reggie got me hooked a few years ago.”

“Reggie?” he questioned before handing her an opened bottle.

She thought quickly. “He’s kind of a surrogate father. My dad passed away when I was sixteen, and Reggie stepped in.”

“So, I don’t have any competition?” He raised his eyebrow and moved to stand between her thighs.

“No.” She ran her fingertip across his clean-shaven jawline. “I haven’t been interested in anyone in a long time.”

Daniel placed his hand on her hip, his thumb caressing her through the thin material of her shirt. “I haven’t either. If this is heading where I think it is, you should know I haven’t done . . . it in a long time.”

“Really?” She understood why someone in her situation would abstain, but she couldn’t believe a guy as gorgeous as Daniel hadn’t had women more than willing to take a tumble in his bed.

He concentrated his gaze on where his thumb was moving across her hip. “I’ve had problems with . . . unwanted attention. I haven’t felt enough of a connection with someone to go further.” He lifted his chin to look in her eyes. “Not until you anyway.”

CiCi took the bottle from his hand and placed it with hers behind her. She moved her body forward a little bit so she could wrap her legs around his waist. If she wanted things to go further, she knew the moment to take a little initiative had arrived. “I think this is the part when you show me your bedroom.”

About the Author

Lindsey Gray dreamed of several different careers as a child. On the short list were doctor, chef, and actress. None held her attention as much as putting pen to paper and creating her own world through words. Since 2010, she's published three novels and one short story with The Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House. In 2013, she went on her first self-publishing adventure to produce her novella, “Fireworks”, and joined the ranks of Renaissance   Romance Publishing with her novella, “Holiday Cure for the Cursed.” Now, every Tuesday night she talks about books, movies, television, music, food, and anything else she can think of as the host of Gray Matters on TMVCafe.com.

A mid-west native, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, rooting for the Green Bay Packers, reading whatever she can get her hands on, and making life interesting at every turn.
