2nd Annual Newark Book Fest

 

I was a signing author this past weekend at the 2nd annual Newark Book Festival in downtown Newark, Ohio. The weather was perfect outside of the wind. Authors were having to hold down their books every time a gust kicked up.

 

The festival's goal to celebrate literature and connect readers with local authors. This year there were over 100 authors set up on Canal Street with their books. It was the perfect opportunity for readers to meet authors and get signed copies of their books.

 

In order to have as many authors as possible participate, most authors shared a table with another author. Luckily, the tables were eight feet long, so I had four feet to try to fit all my books. From experience, I know four feet is the minimum I need to fit all my titles. By the time I laid all my books out, my business cards, and a little stand with a QR code to sign up for my newsletter, I  had just enough space for my cash box.

 

There were plenty of books and bookish things for all ages. Near me was a woman running a summer reading program for kids, a mystery author, a woman selling book shaped vases, a children's book author, and an author who writes romantic thrillers. Then, of course, there was me, who sells steamy and spicy romance. If there was a type of book you were looking for, chances were good you could find it at the Newark Book Festival.

 

They also had face painting for the kids, and one table was handing out peacock feathers. By the end of the day, the feathers were everywhere. I think some of the kids lost control of them because of the wind. It really was quit strong.

 

The highlight of the day, though, was when one of our local meteorologist, whose and avid reader, stopped by my table. She ended up buying a copy of my office romance, Strictly Professional.

 

Newark has consistently been very supportive of my books. I need to get busy on my writing, though. I had some ladies stop by my table and ask if I'd written anything new since last year. Unfortunately, I hadn't, but hopefully my next year I'll have at least one, if not two new books for readers.

My First Columbus Book Festival

 

I've been publishing for over a decade and this is by far the biggest event I've ever attended.

 

 Over 40,000 people attended the Columbus Book Festival this past weekend. With over 200 authors signing, there was something for every book lover. 

 

 I was in the indie author alley tent at the far side of Topiary park with 90 other indie and small press authors. It was HOT, but that didn't deter readers from browsing and buying books.

 

The author beside me brought 40 books with her and sold out on the first day. Maybe others had to bring new stock for day two.

 

I'd heard rumors about how busy last year's event was, so I'd come prepared and fully stocked. It was a good thing, too, because I sold out of two of my titles and was only left with two copies of another.

 

The staff and volunteers were wonderful. They kept coming by to check on us, making sure we had what we needed and seeing if we needed a break.

 

I'm so glad I was able to participate and hope to attend next year as well.

Come See Me At The Columbus Book Festival

 Join me this weekend, July 13th and 14th, at the Columbus Book Festival. 

 

 

The festival is taking place at the main library in downtown Columbus, Ohio and in Topiary Park next door. 

 

I'll be set up in the Indie Author tent located in Topiary Park, along with 90 other indie and self published authors.

 

Outside of the authors, there will also be bookish vendors, food trucks, activities for the kids, and of course BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!

Newark Book Festival

 Saturday I participated in the first annual Newark Book Festival. You never know how an event's going to go, especially if its the first year they're doing it, but the event organizers did it right.

 

We arrived at the location around 9am and people were already starting to set up their tables. My table mate had her books laid out and ready to go.

 

 I was working with a shoulder injury, so it took me a little longer than normal to set up. Plus, I only had 4ft to work with. But by 9:45 I was all set up and ready to go.

 

They had water and donuts for all the authors and their assistants. I didn't have a donut, but my husband said they were really good.

The day started out strong right off the bat. Within minutes of the event starting, we had people checking out the author tables.

 

They had an open mic for the authors to use, but it ended up not being as good of an idea as it sounded on paper. Most of the authors who used it couldn't be heard over the noise and the few authors who could be, ended up making it hard to hear the people who were actually at your table.

 

That, however, was the only hitch in an otherwise amazing event. Readers all over the area came to visit the 98 author and vendor tables. 

 

And to make the set up even better, they had the authors separated by genre. All the non fiction and memoirs were at one end and the fiction was at the other. For the most part, they kept the steamy stuff together and mixed in the non author vendors where it made sense.

 

The crowd stayed consistent until about 20 minutes before the end of the event. It was truly a place for book lovers and I can't wait to do it all over again next year.

Ohio Authors Kickback Event Tomorrow

 

Tomorrow's the big day. My books are already in my vehicle ready to go. Now, all I have to do is hope the rain misses us.

It's been raining on and off today, and they're calling for scattered showers tomorrow. Cross  your fingers it waits until after the event is over and I'm back home before the sky decides to open up.

The event tomorrow is supposed to be pretty laid back and it sounds like the food vendors are going to be really good. It's taking place at the Ohio Selfie Museum. I've never been there, but it should be interesting. We've been told they have all sorts of different selfie booths.

There will be over 20 authors there in a variety of genres. Over 200 people attended last year's event and we're hoping for more this year.

Book Signing Mania

 

On Sunday I participated in the Fall Festival in Marysville, Ohio at the Union County Fairgrounds. As an author, you never know how these types of events are going to go. They’re not book focused, in fact, I’m often the only author there.

I brought what I thought was a good amount of books with me. Then, I brought a few extras to keep in the car just in case I needed them.

I needed them.

An hour into the event, I’d sold out of Strictly Professional. A half hour after that, I sold out of Seducing Janey. So I went to my vehicle and got the reserves I’d brought with me.

I should have brought more.

Another thirty minutes, and I'd sold out of Strictly Professional again. Cali and Matthew were really HOT!

One reader who visited my table said she’d found Red Zone on TikTok. She read it. Loved it. And was there to buy more of the series. She ended up leaving with signed copies of Behind Closed Doors and What Might Have Been.

Another woman walked by my table with her family, then came back a while later by herself. She’s a huge reader of my kind of books, but she was trying to be discreet around her kids. Her husband, however, hadn’t missed my books either and told her he’d occupy the kids while she went back to my table to get some books. She ended up getting my entire Serpent’s Kiss series.

By the end of the day, I’d sold out of What Might Have Been, Burning for Her Kiss, Longing for His Kiss, Strictly Professional, Seducing Janey, and Slave.

It was a great day!

Good thing I have three weeks until my next book signing. I need to order more books!

Finding Anna Read-A-Long Begins Tomorrow

It's beginning to warm up here in Ohio, which is good. I have lots of work to do between  now and release day. It would help if every time I have to go into my study to do something I didn't freeze my tail off. LOL.



As usual, last week was a bit crazy. On the plus side, it was also extremely productive. The first round of edits for Crossing The Line has been sent back to my editor for review. Paul and Megan were as fun to write as Gage and Rebecca. I love these brothers and their ladies! If you haven't checked out my Daniels Brothers Series, I highly recommend it. The first two books are currently available. Crossing The Line is scheduled for release later this year.

Now, on to what I know you've all been craving...Finding Anna.

Snow Rollers And More

It's the beginning of a new week and Ohio, along with the eastern half of the US is being taken over yet again by the polar vortex. While I'm not looking forward to potentially setting a new record low tomorrow, my husband and I did wake up to something rather cool this morning.

According to the weatherman, these are called snow rollers.

Apparently, they are very rare. The snow has to be light enough to be blown around by the wind, yet wet enough to pack. We had more than half a dozen in our yard this morning. Neither my husband, nor I, had ever seen anything like it before so we had to take a picture.

Edits

Editing is slow going. With this weather all I've wanted to do is curl up under a blanket and watch my newest obsession…Coast Guard Alaska. Let me tell you, this show is very inspiring. I might just have to write a story about one of these guys somewhere along the line. ;)

Back on topic, though. The editing for Paul and Megan's book, Crossing The Line, is moving along. I've made it through the first 7 chapters. I know it doesn't sound like much, but progress is progress. At least, that's what I'm telling myself.

Finding Anna Read-A-Long

Waiting Out The Cold and Finalizing Edits

Hello everyone from bitterly cold Ohio. I hope you are all staying warm. At sunset it was about -4F here and the temp is due to drop. Our wind chill is expected to be between -20 and -40 tonight.

The cold temperatures we've been experiencing has certainly made writing and editing interesting. Normally I do my editing in my study on my desktop. That hasn't been possible given the cold. My study doesn't stay as warm as some of the other areas in our home, so it becomes rather uncomfortable to be in there for any length of time.

Because of this, I've had to improvise. Luckily, this summer I purchased Word for my Laptop. I've used it to write from time to time, but I'm now learning how to use it for editing. That might sound as if it would be simple, but it's proving to be a slight challenge. Word or not, the Mac version is different from the PC version. Especially when it comes to editing.

It was slow going at first, but I was able to figure it out. All I have left to edit is the epilogue of Hidden Threat and then it will be off to the editing team at TWCS. Hopefully I will have news soon on when Hidden Threat will be re-released.

RNC: Day 4

My last full day here in Las Vegas.

It's hard to believe. The time went quickly.

Day 4, Saturday, was the consumer book fair. The first part of the week was dedicated to classes and socializing with other conference attendees. Saturday was all about connecting with, and meeting, new readers.

The Set Up

After breakfast, I headed upstairs to where our books were being stored, and not only found my books, but also to find out where my table would be for the book fair itself.

When I found my books, I got a rather unpleasant surprise. The box of books that I'd sent via the post office had apparently busted opened, and the books had fallen out. They'd shoved most of the books back into the box and not well.

Some of the books were damaged, and at first I thought they'd lost 9 copies of Red Zone. Thankfully I did find them in another box.

The Book Fair

Finally having all my books, I set up my table, laid everything out, and got ready to meet potential readers.

Overall it was a good day. I not only sold some books to new readers, one of which bought Slave, Need, and Truth.






I was also able to meet Brandee, a blogger, who's been a fan for a couple of years now.









After the fair ended, and my books returned to my room, I joined 4 other ladies for dinner. It was a great time, and I've started friendships that will hopefully last many years to come.

Sunday I fly back home to Ohio. It's been a great trip to Las Vegas, but I'm ready to see my husband and cats again.

Weekly Update - May 20, 2013

I missed my weekly update again last week. My apologies. I've been so focused on writing Finding Anna, Book 4 that everything else has taken a back seat.

Speaking of writing, things have been going well for the past two weeks. I've made huge progress on my WIP. Still no idea if I'll have it finished by my June 1st deadline, but I'm doing my best. Finding Anna, Book 4 is now up to 89K, and growing every day. I have no idea how long this one will be, but I do know it will be my longest book to date. Truth, due out July 25th, finished up at 98K. This one will surpass that easily.

As I mentioned, Truth (Finding Anna, Book 3) will be out July 25th - that's 66 days from today. I can't wait. I'm so proud of this one. :)




I spent last Saturday at the Ohioana Book Festival. The event gets bigger every year, which is great. One day I'm hoping that all readers in Ohio are made aware of this event and take the opportunity to partake. There ended up being over 100 authors this year with books that ranged from a military history to a book on breakfast cereals, to all manner of fiction from children's picture books to steamy romance. If you haven't been, and you're in Ohio, you should mark your calendars for next year. The book festival is always the second Saturday in May, and its FREE to attend.

Upcoming Lori Foster Event

I will be at the Lori Foster event this weekend mingling with readers and other authors. It will be my first time attending, but I've heard great things from fellow authors.

If any of you are in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, there will be a book signing on Saturday, June 2nd, that's open to the public from 2:00pm-4:00pm. I will not have a booth at this signing (I'm signing Friday night, which is not open to the public), but if you want to stop by and have me sign a book, leave a comment and once I'm at the hotel I'll let you know how to find me on Saturday.

I'll also have all three of my books with me at the event.
